Susan Fowler has had a long history of appreciating the benefits of comfort for your well-being. It started when she was 12 years old and in the Mayo Clinic for three months following a spinal cord bleed causing paralysis. While there, her grandmother brought her down pillows which she cherished all day and all night!
Then, as she recovered, she became a teacher of home economics. She taught sewing as well as child care and nutrition. Her proficiency in sewing and design enabled her to market baby quilts and pillows as comfort items to Bonwit Teller, Sax Fifth Ave and supplied down comforters and pillows for Bergdorf.
When she left the teaching world she first started Cover Down Designs in the late 80s. The Charles Hotel in Cambridge, MA. was her first hotel. The next venture was the Upstairs Down shop in Fair Haven, NJ and then on Madison Avenue.
After selling that in 1991, she opened Down to Basics where she spent 32 years in the Galleria in Red Bank, NJ. She also had a satellite store on Newbury Street in Boston. During those 32 years she did other hotels Sunnyside Resort in Lake Tahoe,California, the Flagler section of the Breakers in Palm Beach, Miraval Resorts in Tucson, Austin and Lenox, The Chiltren Firehouse by Andre Balaz in London as well as hospitals, such as Stanford University Medical Center, Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), and Cleveland Clinic. She also was on QVC with the 4 in1 personal comforter.
Now, after selling Down to Basics, and growing older, she is starting Snug Well Comforts, concentrating on people’s wellness through comfort. Whether a person is in the hospital, recovering in rehab, or relaxing in their golden years, she knows there is nothing more important than snuggling into wellness with the comfort of cozy pillows and comforters.
She understands the importance of comfort to one’s well-being and the health it brings. The little pillows and little comforters are gifts that keeps on giving comfort every single day whether you are home or away!
